George Baldock, the British-born footballer who played as a defender for Greece's Panathinaikos, was tragically found dead in a swimming pool at his home in Glyfada, a suburb in southern Athens. Police sources reported the incident on Wednesday, while the cause of his untimely death remains unknown.

Efforts to revive the 31-year-old former Premier League player through cardiopulmonary resuscitation were unsuccessful, and medical emergency units confirmed Baldock's death, according to a police official. The athlete, with Greek ancestry, had earned 12 caps playing for the Greek national team and recently joined Panathinaikos from Sheffield United.

Before his time in Greece, Baldock was associated with English clubs MK Dons, Oxford United, and Sheffield United, where he played until they were relegated from the Premier League.
