Nobel laureate and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who has lived longer than any other U.S. president in history, celebrates his 100th birthday on Tuesday. Carter served a single term as president from January 1977 to January 1981. His extensive humanitarian work after leaving office, including the promotion of human rights and alleviating poverty around the world, earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

The centennial celebration, coming 19 months after he entered hospice care, is highlighted by a tribute concert recorded at Atlanta's Fox Theatre. The event, featuring stars of country, rock, and gospel music, raised over $1 million for the international programs of the Carter Center, founded by Carter and his late wife, Rosalynn. The concert will be broadcast on Georgia Public Broadcasting, according to Carter's grandson, Jason Carter.

Despite serious health issues leading to his hospice care decision in February 2023, Carter remains a significant moral force. President Joe Biden honored him, stating that Carter's vision and belief in human goodness continue to guide the nation. To mark the milestone, Habitat for Humanity volunteers, including Garth Brooks, will build 30 homes in St. Paul, Minnesota, as part of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project.
