The Union Health Ministry has called upon all states and Union Territories to facilitate the enrollment of senior citizens aged 70 years and above to benefit from the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme.

In a letter, Additional Secretary L S Changsan announced the introduction of a dedicated module in the Ayushman app and web portal (beneficiary.nha.gov.in) for senior citizen enrollment. Eligible individuals will receive a distinct Ayushman card for benefits.

With Aadhaar-based e-KYC as the only requirement, the registration process will be ongoing throughout the year. To avoid duplication, beneficiaries of other government schemes can choose between their existing plan and AB PM-JAY. Top-up covers of up to Rs 25 lakh are available for eligible families. Awareness initiatives are underway to ensure the successful implementation of this scheme.
