The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), in collaboration with The Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council, has initiated an ambitious program to upskill registered pharmacists across the Southern region. This initiative marks a significant stride in enhancing pharmacy education and practices in India.

Launched on Wednesday, coinciding with World Pharmacists Day, the initiative involves setting up six training centres, one in each state pharmacy council within the Southern region. PCI President Montukumar M Patel detailed that the training would encompass current good manufacturing practices, patient counselling, pharmacovigilance, pharmaceutical marketing, and rational drug use, aiming to upskill 26,000 pharmacists under Pradhanmantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0.

Patel underscored the critical role pharmacists play in the healthcare system, from dispensing medications to ensuring drug safety. The theme for this year's World Pharmacists Day, 'Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs,' echoes this sentiment. Patel expressed gratitude to Union Health Minister J P Nadda for recognizing pharmacists' contributions. He also highlighted various PCI initiatives aimed at securing the future of pharmacy education in India.
