The West Bengal government has issued a fresh invitation to the agitating junior doctors for a 5 pm meeting to resolve the ongoing impasse over the RG Kar hospital incident. The invitation marks the state’s third attempt in two days to engage the protesting medics.

While the government met the doctors' demand for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's presence at the meeting, it turned down their request for a live telecast. Instead, it allowed the recording of the meeting and restricted the number of delegates to 15, far fewer than the 30 requested by the protestors.

The protests erupted following the discovery of a postgraduate trainee's body bearing severe injuries at RG Kar Medical College on August 9. The CBI is probing the case, as directed by the Calcutta High Court. Recent security concerns were raised when an unattended bag at the hospital site prompted a bomb disposal squad investigation.
