Dr. M Srinivas, AIIMS-Delhi Director, has highlighted the urgent need to strike a balance between making hospitals secure and ensuring they remain accessible for patients. His comments come amid growing demands by medical professionals nationwide for safer work environments in the wake of the R G Kar Medical College rape-murder incident in Kolkata.

Speaking to PTI editors, Dr. Srinivas stressed that the safety and comfort of doctors have often been overlooked in favor of patient care. He pointed out that while institutions like AIIMS and PGI Chandigarh have relatively better infrastructure, many hospitals still need significant upgrades to create a comfortable environment for healthcare workers.

The National Task Force member emphasized that a multi-pronged approach is required to improve the working conditions and welfare of medical professionals. This includes addressing long duty hours, providing essential amenities, and ensuring security within hospital premises, all while maintaining high standards of patient care.
