The Indian government has introduced the 'One Nation, One Policy' initiative, aiming to standardize organ donation and transplantation across the country, according to a senior official from the health ministry.

L S Changsan, Additional Secretary in the Union Health Ministry, emphasized the importance of making organ donation a regular practice to offer a new lease on life to those suffering from organ failure. She inaugurated a discussion on necessary reforms in technolgy, processes, and legislation for organ donation and transplantation in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted organ donation in his Mann Ki Baat program, stating that one donor can save up to eight lives. Changsan reiterated the need for promoting organ donation from deceased individuals to meet the growing demand in the country. The health ministry is focusing on improving infrastructure and training manpower, particularly in government institutions.

The Centre's 'Angdaan Jan Jagrukta Abhiyaan' campaign is already active in several states to raise public awareness. Dr Atul Goel, Director General of Health Services, noted the role of NOTTO in leading organ and tissue transplant initiatives. The two-day 'Chintan Shivir' will discuss ten crucial themes and propose legislative reforms to enhance the current legal framework.
