Tragedy struck Bhiwandi town as a four-year-old girl, Laiba Shaikh, succumbed to injuries sustained from a stray dog attack. The attack, which took place on July 8, led to severe facial injuries that required multiple hospital transfers for treatment.

Laiba initially received care at IGM Hospital in Bhiwandi, followed by surgery at Thane civil hospital, but her condition worsened, ultimately necessitating a move to Sion Hospital in Mumbai, where she passed away after more than a month-long battle.

Local communities have expressed outrage, citing the failure of the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation to manage the stray dog population. A call for a sterilization drive and a First Information Report against those responsible has been made by local MLA Rais Shaikh.
