The Centre has mandated states to enhance security at healthcare facilities, including night patrolling and regulated access, in response to rising violence against medics.

This directive follows the Supreme Court's order after the rape-murder case of a junior doctor in Kolkata. The court instructed the Union health secretary to ensure that states implement basic security measures until the National Task Force (NTF), led by the cabinet secretary, establishes a comprehensive protocol.

Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan have urged remaining states to enact similar security laws. Specific strategies include installing CCTV cameras, integrating the 112 helpline for healthcare workers, and conducting joint security audits by district authorities. Emphasis was placed on innovative approaches to safeguard healthcare workers, reflecting the government's commitment to their safety.
