Healthcare services at state-run hospitals in West Bengal faced disruptions on Saturday as junior doctors remained on strike for the 16th day. The protest aims to seek justice for the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Senior doctors stepped in to handle emergency services amidst the strike. 'Our protest will continue until justice is served for our sister. There is no alternative,' an agitating doctor at RGKMCH told PTI.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court reiterated its appeal for doctors to resume work, assuring that no coercive actions would be taken against them. The junior doctors are also demanding the removal of multiple officials from the RGKMCH administration. The state government has already removed three senior officials and canceled the transfer of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the hospital. The body of the postgraduate trainee was found on August 9, and a civic volunteer has been arrested in connection with the crime.
