Medics have extended their indefinite strike into its ninth day, maintaining a halt on elective services in response to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Although the Supreme Court intervened, the Health Ministry is yet to take concrete action on the issue of Clinical Practice Allowance (CPA).

The Federation of Resident Doctors' Associations (FORDA) and the Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) announced that a decision regarding the ongoing strike would be made post Supreme Court hearing.

In response to the situation, the Supreme Court set up a 10-member task force to develop a national protocol ensuring doctors' safety and workplace facilities.
