Tel Aviv [Israel], September 11 (ANI/TPS): For the first time, Israel's Ministry of Health has launched a suicide prevention campaign, unveiled on World Suicide Prevention Day. Initiated in early 2023, the campaign addresses men and their families, underlining the challenges men face in discussing their mental health issues and encouraging sharing.

The campaign highlights that men are at a higher risk, with the Ministry's data revealing that about 400 of the 500 annual suicide cases in Israel involve men. Research suggests that the reluctance to open up about emotional distress significantly increases suicide risk. Hence, it is crucial to talk with someone close and seek help, the Ministry advises.

The campaign showcases signs of depression in men and offers guidance on appropriate behavior when suicidal thoughts emerge. It stresses the importance of asking direct questions about suicide and emphasizes the involvement of family and friends in recognizing warning signs early and intervening appropriately.

Additionally, the campaign provides practical tools for engaging in honest and empathetic conversations with those in distress, discussing suicide openly and directly, and encouraging the pursuit of professional help.
