Mob's Night of Destruction at R G Kar Medical College: Vandalism Sparks Outrage

A mob vandalised 18 departments at R G Kar Medical College, damaging essential equipment and infrastructure. This act followed a protest over the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor. In a shocking act of vandalism, 18 departments at the state-run R G Kar Medical College and Hospital were severely damaged by a mob, a senior health department official revealed on Thursday. The extensive destruction may take weeks to repair.

Violence erupted during the night, wreaking havoc on the emergency ward, staff rooms, and nurse changing areas. CCTV cameras were also destroyed, adding to the chaos. A portion of the seminar hall, linked to the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor, was significantly damaged.

A group of around 40 people reportedly entered the hospital, vandalising key areas and equipment, and disrupting an ongoing protest by junior doctors demanding workplace security. The West Bengal Doctors' Forum has condemned the violence, calling for a high-powered inquiry and the strict punishment of those responsible.
