The Union Health Ministry has introduced Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to streamline the transport of human organs across various travel modes like air, road, railways, and waterways. These guidelines aim to enhance the efficiency and safety of organ transport, with a focus on facilitating seamless coordination between various agencies and institutions.

The Union Health Ministry has unveiled Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aimed at optimizing the transport of human organs through air, road, railways, and waterways. This marks a significant step towards improving organ transplant logistics.

Health Secretary Apurva Chandra emphasized that these SOPs are critical for maximizing the utilization of organs and offering renewed hope to patients awaiting transplants. The SOPs serve as a roadmap for hospitals and transplant institutions, ensuring compliance with best practices and quality standards.

Airlines transporting organs can request priority take-off, landing, and seating arrangements, while 'green corridors' will be created for road transport to expedite processes. These measures, developed in consultation with NITI Aayog and other stakeholders, aim to address the complexities and challenges in organ transport.
