Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals are laboring tirelessly in Kerala's Wayanad district, struck by a devastating landslide, to provide critical care to severely injured survivors and conduct autopsies on the remains of victims.

State Health Minister Veena George announced that as of 7 am today, 256 autopsies had been completed. This number includes partial remains, and 154 bodies have been handed over to the district administration.

George detailed that many bodies were swept away and later recovered from the Pothukal area in Malappuram district. She highlighted the traumatic experiences faced by health workers, noting that over 100 autopsies were performed just on Wednesday night.

The Health Department has established a temporary hospital in the affected area. The public healthcare center, equipped for autopsies and inquests, alongside teams from other districts and private sector contributors, has been mobilized to help. Medications have been provided, and critically injured patients, including a child who inhaled mud, have been moved to advanced medical facilities in Kozhikode.

To prevent disease outbreaks in the aftermath, measures have been put in place, and treatments are being administered in multiple district hospitals. Both governmental and private entities are working collaboratively to support the disaster response.
