The Left government in Kerala has stepped in to allocate Rs 55 crore to cover the salaries and incentives for employees of the Centrally-sponsored National Health Mission (NHM) and ASHA workers.
State Finance Minister K N Balagopal announced that Rs 45 crore would be earmarked for the salaries and other expenses of NHM employees, while Rs 10 crore would go towards incentives for ASHA workers.
Balagopal pointed out that NHM operates on a 60-40 funding split between the Central and state governments, but this year, the Central government has yet to release Rs 329 crore earmarked for salaries and expenses. The state government decided to provide emergency assistance to keep the healthcare services functioning.
