In an effort to mitigate waterborne diseases, the Una district administration is set to launch an Intensive Diarrhoea Control Fortnight from June 15 to 30.

During this period, 39,205 children under the age of five will receive ORS packets and zinc tablets, according to Mahenra Pal Gurjar, the Additional District Commissioner (ADC) of Una, who made the announcement on Thursday.

ASHA workers will conduct door-to-door distribution of these medical supplies and encourage parents to take children suffering from diarrhoea to health centers for accurate diagnosis and treatment. They will also identify physically weak children in the area.

The health department, collaborating with other local bodies, will provide comprehensive hygiene and health information to parents. The ADC has called on panchayati raj institutions to actively participate in ensuring the success of the initiative, aiming to protect every panchayat within the district from diarrhoea.

Officials from the education and child development departments have been tasked to achieve full coverage in schools and Anganwadi centers. Gurjar also instructed Jal Shakti Department officials to maintain rigorous cleaning and chlorination of all drinking water sources to minimize the risk of polluted water contributing to disease.
