Boosting Coal Production: A Call for Streamlined Mine Operations
JSPL's Naveen Jindal has urged the coal ministry to implement better state-level monitoring to expedite mine operations. Current delays are hindering production growth. With plans to significantly increase coal output by 2030, effective coordination is vital. Minister Reddy supports this, linking coal to economic and net-zero targets.

Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL), emphasized the urgent need for the coal ministry to establish a robust monitoring system at the state level. During the recent commercial coal mine auction, Jindal voiced concerns over delays in mine operationalisation due to bureaucratic hurdles.
Jindal pointed out that although state governments benefit from substantial royalties, some officials obstruct mine development. He highlighted the necessity for increased pressure on state authorities to expedite the process, ensuring JSPL meets its production goals of 30 million tonnes next year and 50 million tonnes by 2030.
Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy responded positively, stressing collaborative efforts with state governments to streamline approvals. He underscored that coal is crucial for India's energy security and economic aspiration to become a USD 5 trillion economy, while also supporting environmental goals.
