On Wednesday, Shashi Tharoor, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, disclosed that a detailed discussion on India's relations with Bangladesh took place during a meeting with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Tharoor highlighted the comprehensive nature of the talks, emphasizing serious consideration of all aspects of the bilateral relationship.

Tharoor noted, "The agenda included two major topics. Most of the meeting focused on our dialogue with the Foreign Secretary regarding Bangladesh. While I am not at liberty to reveal specifics, it was an exhaustive discussion reflecting on all pertinent factors with significant consideration." Additionally, the committee reviewed a report on the Indian diaspora, touching upon NRIs, PIOs, OCIs, and Migrant Workers.

Tensions have escalated in India-Bangladesh relations following violence against Hindu minorities after Sheikh Hasina's removal and interim government take over led by Mohammad Yunus. India's Ministry of External Affairs has condemned these acts, urging Bangladesh's government to ensure the protection of minorities and religious places. In early March, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reported 2374 incidents between August 5, 2024, and February 16, 2025, though only 1254 were confirmed by police; nearly all incidents were deemed politically motivated. Jaiswal urged a thorough investigation and justice for perpetrators of violence.

Concerns were also voiced regarding the release of violent extremists responsible for severe offenses, worsening the precarious law and order scenario. India reiterates its support for a peaceful and democratic Bangladesh, advocating for issues to be resolved through inclusive electoral processes.
