The Delhi High Court has granted permission for the withdrawal of a Public Interest Litigation targeting the controversial lyrics of the song 'Maniac', produced by YoYo Honey Singh Productions Private Limited. A judicial bench, consisting of Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, refused to adjudicate the matter further.
An alternative course of action was suggested to the petitioner, specifically the filing of an FIR if the allegations pertain to vulgarity or obscenity. The court criticized the language used by the petitioner's counsel, particularly objecting to the term "Bhojpuri vulgarity," and insisted that vulgar expressions are a universal concern, not confined to specific regions.
The petitioner, Lavkush Kumar, represented by Advocate Kumar Utkarsh, contended that the song perpetuates explicit sexualization and uses double entendre, with women portrayed merely as sexual objects. The plea argued that the song's lyrics promote obscenity, which may negatively influence the youth and challenge societal morals.
