In a significant operation conducted by Assam Rifles, an individual was apprehended in Assam's Silchar district, leading to the seizure of counterfeit Indian currency worth over Rs 37 lakh. The mission, initially triggered by intelligence on drug smuggling, revealed a substantial haul of fake currency, marking a victorious effort against counterfeit activities in the region.
According to an official release, the seizure occurred in Rongpur, Silchar, on March 25, and serves as a testament to the security force's vigilance and commitment to maintaining law and order in the northeast. The operation is anticipated to deter the circulation of counterfeit currency significantly.
Meanwhile, joint operations led by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles under the Spear Corps in Manipur recovered 32 weapons, ammunition, and other war-like stores from several districts between March 22-25. These operations, carried out with the collaboration of Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF, and ITBP, reflect the coordinated efforts to curb illegal activities. The recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police for further investigation into the nexus of weapon and counterfeit currency smuggling.
