Tensions Rise Over Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant Control
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, claimed by Russia as its facility, remains a contentious issue. Russia rejects transferring control to Ukraine, while Ukraine seeks to reclaim jurisdiction. Amid security concerns, international proposals, including potential U.S. involvement, are on the table.

Russia's Foreign Ministry declared on Tuesday that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant is a Russian facility, ruling out any transfer of control to Ukraine or any other nation.
The ministry cited safety concerns, stating that joint management of the plant is inadmissible. It emphasized that the region, annexed by Russia following referendums, makes the plant formally Russian property. Western countries have dismissed these referendums as illegitimate.
Amid ongoing allegations from both Russia and Ukraine of attacks compromising plant safety, the facility remains inactive with the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog monitoring the site. Discussions between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy have explored the potential for U.S. investment in the plant. Zelenskiy maintains that the plant belongs to Ukraine.
