This deadly strain of avian influenza, commonly referred to as bird flu, has spread across the globe, affecting regions including the United States, and leading to the culling of hundreds of millions of poultry birds as part of containment efforts.
The recent outbreak in Bangladesh's Jessore district resulted in the death of 1,900 birds from a flock of 3,978. To prevent further spread, the remaining birds were culled, following standard health protocols.
