The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has undertaken a significant operation exposing corruption within the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). On Monday, the CBI announced the arrest of four individuals, including a General Manager at NHAI and three private sector representatives, following the illicit exchange of a bribe worth Rs 15 lakh.
The arrests stem from allegations that these individuals were involved in granting undue advantages in the processing and approval of NHAI project bills in exchange for illegal payments. The CBI's investigation, initiated on March 22, 2025, targets 12 suspects, including public servants of high rank within NHAI, representatives of a private entity, and other unnamed individuals.
The agency's thorough searches in locations such as Patna, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Begusarai, Purnia, Ranchi, and Varanasi have uncovered Rs 1.18 crore in cash and critical evidence. The operation illustrates the agency's commitment to tackling corruption, as investigations continue to develop.
