A consignment of the highly sought-after GI-tagged Dalle Chilly from Sikkim has been successfully exported to the Solomon Islands, according to an official statement released on Monday.
Dalle Chilly, often referred to as Fire Ball Chilly or Dalle Khursani, is famous for its intense heat, vibrant red color, and high nutritional content, including vitamins A, C, and E, as well as potassium.
The export was facilitated by Mevedir, which procured around 15,000 kg of fresh Dalle Chilly from farmers and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in South Sikkim. By selling internationally, these farmers earned a premium price of Rs 250-300 per kg, as opposed to the usual Rs 180-200 per kg, showcasing the economic advantages of Geographical Indication tagging and cross-border commerce.
