Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, aligned himself with the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) during their protest at Jantar Mantar against the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, UGC draft rules, and recent paper leaks. He delivered a sharp critique of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accusing it of attempting to undermine India's education framework.
Gandhi voiced his concerns about the RSS's influence in educational institutions, highlighting the appointment of RSS-nominated individuals as Vice-Chancellors and stressing the potential consequences of such control. He linked the nation's dire unemployment rates with the government's policies, criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for neglecting economic issues in favor of other topics.
Furthermore, the Congress leader accused the BJP-RSS alliance of concentrating wealth in the hands of industrial magnates like Ambani and Adani while sidelining institutional authority. He called for unity and resistance against these moves. Meanwhile, several NSUI activists were detained by Delhi Police during the demonstration.
