In a controversial statement, BJP leader PC George alleged that 400 girls in the Meenachil taluk of Kottayam district have fallen victim to interfaith marriages. Speaking at an anti-drug event in Pala, he noted only 41 of these girls were able to return to their families.
George further addressed the topic of marriage age in Christian families, suggesting girls should wed by 22. He criticized parents for delaying marriages, citing a 25-year-old girl who went missing in Bharananganam as a cautionary example.
Drawing comparisons with Muslim family practices, where girls typically marry by 18, George blamed financial motivations for delayed Christian marriages. Earlier in the year, George faced legal trouble for inciting violence, but was recently granted bail in a related hate speech case.
