DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi has taken a stand against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan by filing a breach of parliamentary privilege notice on Monday. This action stems from remarks made by Pradhan in Parliament, where he reportedly labeled Tamil Nadu MPs as "uncivilised" during a heated debate on the state's education system and its opposition to the three-language policy.
Expressing her outrage to the media, Kanimozhi described the comments as derogatory and unbecoming for parliamentary discourse. She criticized the BJP's inability to accept the rapid development in southern states, suggesting that Pradhan's remarks were fueled by such frustrations. The DMK has consistently opposed the imposition of Hindi as a third language in schools, advocating for the continuation of Tamil and English as the primary mediums of instruction.
Kanimozhi also highlighted societal and developmental differences between southern and northern states, amidst tensions surrounding the National Education Policy (NEP). The proposed delimitation exercise, which might affect parliamentary seat allocations, further amplifies southern states' concerns about their political representation. Kanimozhi has called for transparent discussions on these issues and criticized the reluctance of parliamentary authorities to engage in open debates.
