A proposed multi-product petroleum pipeline project between India and Sri Lanka will only progress if it proves to be economically viable, according to the head of Sri Lanka's national oil company. This declaration emphasizes that political motivations will not dictate the decision.

Discussions regarding potential trilateral cooperation between India, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates were initiated during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's visit to India last year. The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Chairman, W A Rajakaruna, stated that the project is currently under a feasibility assessment.

The project, part of a broader energy connectivity initiative between Sri Lanka and India, also includes a proposal for power grid connectivity. Talks concerning the multi-product pipeline and power grid interconnection continue, aligning with the report from Sri Lanka's Ministry of External Affairs.
