Amidst plummeting chilli prices in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has vowed to support the distressed farmers. In a crucial meeting with stakeholders, including farmers, exporters, and traders, Naidu emphasized the importance of cooperation to tackle the crisis.
The farmers expressed concerns about not recovering their investments in chilli farming, citing high production and labor costs. Exporters highlighted reduced demand from major markets, including China and Indonesia, causing further strain on the local economy.
Naidu pointed out that the central government has offered to buy chillies below a certain price under a market intervention scheme. As the state strives for a sustainable solution, Naidu promised enhanced export facilities through local ports to uplift the chilli sector.
