The Bihar government is stepping up efforts to combat domestic violence by hiring a dedicated team of 140 full-time protection officers. This move aims to better support women affected by such violence, according to the Social Welfare Department.
In light of the increasing number of domestic violence cases, the new cadre of officers will be stationed at sub-division, district, and state levels. Harjot Kaur Bamhrah, an official from the department, outlined the initiative, highlighting its basis in the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.
Additionally, Bihar plans to enhance support systems by opening 11 new one-stop centers across various districts, as part of ongoing measures to safeguard women's rights. These centers aim to provide comprehensive assistance to women facing violence.
