Levelling grave allegations against certain police officials, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mohan Singh Bisht accused personnel of trying to recreate tensions like the 2020 Delhi riots. Bisht specifically named a policeman, Rizwan, whom he described as a threat to community harmony.
Bisht stated that a complaint will be filed with Delhi's Commissioner of Police and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The 2020 Northeast Delhi riots reportedly claimed 53 lives and are said to stem from a wider conspiracy. Meanwhile, legal proceedings related to these riots continue, with recent court decisions stirring controversy.
A Delhi sessions court recently intervened in a magistrate's order for registering an FIR against police officials alleged to have acted with bias during the riots. The court emphasized that halting this order is crucial to preventing interference with ongoing legal processes.
Additionally, the Delhi High Court is hearing rebuttal arguments in the case of Umar Khalid and others accused of conspiring in the riots. Khalid's defense claims his alleged involvement via a WhatsApp group does not constitute wrongdoing. The case, steeped in allegations under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), remains under judicial scrutiny.
Deliberations continue with judges Navin Chawla and Shalinder Kaur, with the next hearing scheduled for March 4. Court proceedings unfold amid detailed arguments from legal representatives on both sides, highlighting the complexity and sensitivity of the ongoing investigation into the riots.
