The historic Tripura Sundari Devi Temple, also known as Matabari, is positioned to become an even more prominent spiritual tourism destination following a comprehensive upgrade funded under the PRASHAD and Swadesh Darshan schemes. With an investment of Rs 33 crore from these schemes and an additional Rs 9 crore from the state government, the development is aimed at accommodating increasing numbers of devotees.
Bhaskar Das Gupta, the Officer on Special Duty for the project, disclosed to ANI that the temple's renovation is nearly complete, incorporating significant enhancements such as the renovation and redevelopment of the temple premises, the construction of essential facilities like toilet blocks, changing rooms, and more. The construction aligns with efforts to promote regional spiritual tourism.
The newly renovated site now boasts a three-story complex featuring not only a refreshed temple space but also additional amenities such as a meditation hall, guest rooms, office spaces, and stalls offering local foods. Originally constructed in 1500 AD by King Dhanya Manikya, the temple has long been a center of faith and pilgrimage, drawing massive crowds, particularly during the Deepawali festival.
