The Hyderabad City Police have taken decisive action against the illegal sale of banned Chinese manja, a synthetic kite string notorious for endangering life and wildlife. Officials confirmed on Thursday that 22 people have been apprehended in connection with the sale of this perilous product.

The crackdown was initiated after a chilling incident in which a 40-year-old man sustained severe injuries when a 'china manja' slit his throat while he navigated his two-wheeler in Ramaram, situated in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Acting on credible tips, Mangalhat PS officials uncovered the presence of this banned substance being sold within their jurisdiction.

Led by Inspector M. Mahesh and his team under the watchful eyes of senior officers, including K Venkata Reddy and G. Chandra Mohan among others, a rigorous special drive was conducted. The operation revealed prohibited manja in several outlets, resulting in 18 cases being registered and the seizure of 1094 synthetic bobbins.

Deputy Commissioner G. Chandra Mohan asserted that stern warnings have been issued to shop owners selling kites and manja, cautioning them against stocking the illegal product. Rigorous community meetings have also been facilitated to emphasize safety measures during kite flying, underscoring the threat to human and animal safety posed by these synthetic strings.

Further investigations revealed the severity of Krishna Rao's injury, a resident of Cherlaguda Mandal, who suffered grievous harm from the manja while on his motorcycle. Although no official complaint has been filed, police note that Rao is now in stable condition.
