Transdniestria Faces Heating Crisis Amid Gas Dispute
The Moldovan region of Transdniestria experiences a heating and hot water crisis as Russia halts gas supply via Ukraine. This follows the expiration of a transit deal between Russia and Ukraine. Residents are advised to conserve heat, while essential services remain unaffected.
The breakaway Moldovan region of Transdniestria is grappling with a heating and hot water crisis after Russia halted gas supplies via Ukraine. The local energy firm, Tirasteploenergo, confirmed the suspension, leaving many households without essential services on Wednesday.
Transdniestria, a pro-Russian separatist region, relied on gas transported through Ukraine. The supply cut results from the expiration of a transit agreement between Russia and Ukraine. However, hospitals and other critical facilities remain exempt from the heating cuts.
Residents are urged to stay warm by gathering in single rooms and using electric heaters cautiously, while refraining from using gas stoves for heating. Although Moscow has pledged protection for its citizens and soldiers in Transdniestria, the region now faces an uncertain energy future.
