In a significant move against the illegal distribution of counterfeit drugs, authorities launched a joint investigation, resulting in a major seizure at a wholesale outlet in Kolkata. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and the Drugs Control Directorate of West Bengal executed a raid on 'M/s Care and Cure For You.'
The operation unveiled a substantial stockpile of spurious anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, and other medications, allegedly lacking the proper importation documents typically sourced from Ireland, Turkey, the USA, and Bangladesh. Concerns escalated with the discovery of empty packing materials, casting further doubt on the authenticity of these pharmaceuticals.
Estimated at a market value of Rs 6.60 Crore, the seized drugs are under quality testing while the accused proprietor, a woman, has been apprehended. The court has ordered her judicial custody for 14 days, allowing continued interrogation. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reaffirms its commitment to eradicating counterfeit drugs from the market.
