In a fierce response to Nitesh Rane's controversial 'Mini-Pakistan' comment, Congress MP Tariq Anwar defended Kerala and questioned the motives behind such divisive narratives. Anwar's retort notably centered on Rahul Gandhi's electoral victory in Rae Bareli, sarcastically inquiring if it suggested a similar separatist undertone, thereby reinforcing the unity in Kerala.
Highlighting the need for cohesion among citizens, Anwar stated, "All the people living in Kerala, whatever religion they belong to - all are our brothers." He criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for employing inflammatory language, insinuating that such tactics aim to distract the public from more pressing national issues. "BJP always makes such comments to divert people from the real issues," Anwar remarked sharply.
On the defensive, Maharashtra Fisheries Minister Nitesh Rane clarified his previous statement regarding Kerala and Pakistan. Rane expressed concerns over the decreasing Hindu population and alleged religious conversions occurring in Kerala, comparing them to the plight of Hindus in Pakistan. Stressing upon Kerala's identity within India, Rane articulated, "Kerala is very much part of India," and advocated for protective measures concerning Hindus, while asserting that his comments were factual observations rather than incendiary claims.
