In a recent development, seasoned Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Vitul Kumar has been tasked with the officiating role of Director General for the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). This assignment follows the impending retirement of current force chief Anish Dayal Singh on December 31, 2024.

Kumar, a 1993-batch IPS officer from Uttar Pradesh, presently holds the position of Special Director General within CRPF. According to an official memorandum from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Kumar will serve in this capacity until a permanent successor is named or until further notice. "Vitul Kumar has been conferred the post following Anish Dayal Singh's superannuation," the document states.

Born in Bhatinda, Punjab, on August 3, 1968, Kumar is an electronics engineer by training. His policing career has seen him rise rapidly through the ranks, achieving Deputy Inspector General in 2009, Inspector General by 2012, and Additional Director General in 2018. Notably, Kumar was appointed as Special Director General of the CRPF in September 2024, with a tenure stretching to August 2028.

Recognized for his distinguished service, Kumar has earned numerous accolades, including the President's Police Medal in 2021 and the Police Medal in 2009. He also received the Director General's Commendation Disc in both silver and gold. As 2024 concludes, Kumar steps into his new role at the helm of the CRPF, ready to steer the force until a new Director General is appointed.
