The Supreme Court has asked the Uttar Pradesh Government to provide a response regarding a plea filed by choreographer-turned-director Remo D'Souza. The plea seeks the dismissal of a 2016 cheating case against him.
In a session on Thursday, a bench comprising of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan issued a notice to the UP government about D'Souza's request. They have scheduled the matter for further hearings next week, despite declining D'Souza any interim relief in the case.
Remo D'Souza faces serious allegations, including charges under Sections 420, 406, and 386 of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint contends that D'Souza convinced an individual to invest in his movie with promises of returning double the amount, a promise he allegedly did not fulfill.
