In a significant development, a Finnish investor group has successfully acquired Helsinki Arena from its Russian owners. The venue, previously idle for two years due to sanctions, is set to revitalize Finland's sports and events scene.
The acquisition, led by Trevian Asset Management Ltd and Heikki Viitikko, concludes after an arduous two-year negotiation process. An exceptional EU permit is still required due to the sanctions in place against the previous Russian investors.
The Helsinki Arena's sale, deterred previously by sanctions related to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, is anticipated to rekindle local economic activity and international attention to the city, marking a strategic triumph for Helsinki's governance.
