Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin called on External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to secure the release of detained fishermen and their boats from the Sri Lankan Navy. In a letter, Stalin shared details of the incidents and emphasized the urgency of the situation.
According to Stalin, the apprehension of Tamil Nadu fishermen has reached a seven-year high in 2024. He mentioned that arrests on November 9 and November 12 have deeply disrupted livelihoods and caused significant distress among the fishermen's families.
The Chief Minister called for immediate diplomatic intervention to prevent further detentions, stressing the need for swift action to secure their release. Stalin requested concerted efforts from the central government to protect the fishermen from such incidents.
