Union Minister of Jal Shakti, CR Paatil, presided over the 13th High Powered Review Board meeting of the Brahmaputra Board in Guwahati on Tuesday, focusing on aligning the board's initiatives with strategic objectives. The meeting reviewed a comprehensive transformation agenda, covering policy reviews in recruitment, remote work, and utilization of river basin management funds sanctioned by the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC).
In a bid to boost operational capacity, the board approved the establishment of a Central Planning Unit (CPU) and a Project Management Unit (PMU) at its headquarters for enhanced oversight. Additionally, specialized cells dedicated to IT, AI, data management, and international cooperation were proposed to deepen institutional expertise.
Highlighting the pressing need for water conservation, Minister Paatil reiterated the Prime Minister's call as a national imperative. The meeting, attended by officials from northeastern states under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, echoed this sentiment. Earlier, the inaugural Springshed Management Workshop underscored strategies for spring preservation and sustainable water management, backed by Chairman Ranbir Singh.
