The Delhi High Court has ruled that Delhi University must commence the counting of votes for the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) elections by November 26, conditional on the cleanup and repainting of defaced public and private properties within a week.
Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela ordered the university and its students to submit a report confirming the restoration of these properties within 10 days. The directive followed a petition by Prashant Manchanda, highlighting the widespread defacement of properties during the election campaign.
The court voiced disappointment with candidate conduct following incidents of road barricading and reckless driving. Each candidate is tasked with overseeing the cleaning of their colleges, with assurances already underway from the university regarding cleanup initiatives. The High Court insisted on documented proof, including photos, of the cleanup work, continuing to delay the vote count until all concerns are addressed.
