The Union Cabinet is poised to approve a revised Jharia Master Plan, aimed at mitigating fire and subsidence issues in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district, according to sources.
Initially launched in August 2009 with a ten-year implementation window, the plan seeks to protect and rehabilitate affected areas. The revised proposal includes segmented phases, prioritizing life-threatening situations, followed by less urgent locations.
Coal India Ltd and Bharat Coking Coal Ltd will offer financial backing, allocating Rs 500 crore annually to combat current and future coal fires. The Master Plan envisions building crucial infrastructure to enhance quality of life following extensive rehabilitation efforts.
