In a bid to revolutionize its healthcare sector, Tripura, under the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha, is set on becoming a comprehensive medical hub. The state's initiative focuses on creating self-sufficiency in healthcare services, giving prominence to the enhancement of hospitals and infrastructure as primary objectives.

During the Association of Surgeons of India's 18th annual state conference, Saha emphasized the strategic development of medical facilities in Tripura, influenced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance. He highlighted how efforts to strengthen the healthcare system have recently elevated the state to a level where advanced procedures can be performed locally.

The government's vision includes establishing a medical hub that integrates allopathic, homeopathic, and ayurvedic healthcare. Eight organizations are keen on establishing high-standard hospitals in Agartala, with the government offering prime land allocations. However, such institutions must independently recruit their medical staff, as government physicians are restricted from private practices.

Medical education in Tripura is expanding, with three colleges offering about 400 MBBS seats, alongside a new dental college and expanded hospital facilities. Notably, kidney transplants are now possible, and plans for liver transplants are underway, showcasing marked progress in the region's medical capabilities.

The state's healthcare infrastructure continues to grow. An investment proposal for Seha Hospital and medical college, costing approx Rs. 700 crore, awaits approval. Furthermore, Tripura plans to open trauma care centers in underdeveloped areas and introduce de-addiction facilities across its districts, each with allocated budgets of Rs. 20 crore.
