The coal sector is experiencing significant growth, as the government expressed confidence on Saturday in achieving an ambitious production target exceeding 170 million tonnes from captive and commercial coal blocks for the current fiscal year. The coal ministry highlighted a remarkable 33% increase in production between April and November, totaling 100.08 million tonnes compared to 75.05 million tonnes during the previous year.
Furthermore, dispatch from these mines has climbed substantially, rising to 107.81 million tonnes from the earlier 80.23 million tonnes. This upward trend underscores the ministry's optimism about hitting the production target in 2024-25.
The increasing contribution of captive and commercial coal mines to India's overall coal production reflects the success of ongoing reforms in the coal sector. This progress marks a significant step towards the country's goal of achieving self-sufficiency in energy resources, according to the coal ministry.
