National Conference President Farooq Abdullah expressed his sorrow on Friday over the death of BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana. Abdullah praised Rana as a "wise man" and reflected on their past ties, emphasizing that they maintained mutual respect despite Rana's exit from the National Conference in 2021. Abdullah extended his sympathies to Rana's family, saying, "May God give courage to his family to bear this shock... We are with them in this grief."
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his condolences, noting Rana's dedication to advancing Jammu and Kashmir. Modi remarked, "Shri Devender Singh Rana Ji's untimely demise is shocking. He was a veteran leader committed to Jammu and Kashmir's progress." Modi highlighted Rana's recent electoral success in the Assembly polls and his role in strengthening the BJP in the region, offering his thoughts to Rana's family and supporters during this difficult time.
Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina and BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh joined in mourning Rana's passing. Raina called him a "hardworking leader," recalling his widespread support in the Nagrota constituency. Chugh expressed his "deep shock" over the loss, acknowledging Rana's dedication and service to the people. Rana, who passed away at 59, was recently elected as Nagrota's MLA and was brother to Union Minister Jitendra Singh.
