Government Boosts Pensioners' Allowances Ahead of Diwali
The Union government issued an order for an additional dearness relief installment for pensioners, effective from July 1, 2024. This increase, approved on October 16, raises central government pensioners' dearness allowance from 50% to 53% and provides arrears for the past four months.

Ahead of Diwali, the Union government has announced a financial boost for pensioners with the issuance of an additional installment of dearness relief.
This decision, approved by the Union Cabinet on October 16, increases the dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) by 3% for central government employees and pensioners, taking effect from July 1, 2024.
The Department of Pension & Pensioners' Welfare has formalized this with an order dated October 30, 2024, entitling central government pensioners to an increased DA and DR rate of 53% from the previous 50%, with the added benefit of receiving arrears for the past four months.
