Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, responsible for party affairs in Maharashtra, criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday. He accused the BJP of systematically diminishing their alliance partners, alleging that the party is coercively turning allied candidates into BJP candidates. Chennithala confidently stated that the public will hold the BJP accountable for its actions.
In a press conference earlier, Chennithala highlighted the Congress's inclusive approach to seat-sharing in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, contrasting it with the BJP's alleged dominance in the Mahayuti alliance. He asserted that MVA has achieved a fair nomination process across all 288 constituencies, unlike its rival, which he claimed monopolized seats formerly held by NCP and Shiv Sena.
The controversy around BJP's actions included opposition to Nawab Malik's candidacy, whom BJP leader Kirit Somaiya labeled as a terrorist and an agent for Dawood. Chennithala also criticized the stalled Ladli Behen Yojana, accusing the state government of lacking funds and misleading the public before elections. The Maharashtra Assembly elections are set for November 20, with results expected on November 23.
