Russia Challenges Asset Seizure in Finland Amid Ongoing Naftogaz Dispute
Russia intends to legally contest the seizure of its state assets in Finland, a move prompted by Ukrainian company Naftogaz's ongoing claims against Moscow over expropriated property following the 2014 annexation of Crimea. The dispute is part of a larger legal effort by Naftogaz to secure owed compensation.
Russia is gearing up to challenge a legal move by Finnish authorities to seize state-owned assets in response to a claim filed by the Ukrainian oil and gas company Naftogaz, the Kremlin stated on Tuesday.
Naftogaz has been actively pursuing compensation from Russia since the annexation of Crimea in 2014, which led to Moscow's expropriation of Naftogaz property. The recent asset freeze in Finland, according to Naftogaz's legal representatives, includes property worth tens of millions of dollars.
The move is a part of a larger international strategy to reclaim owed compensation amounts, including efforts in the U.S. and U.K. Russia's Foreign Ministry has expressed concerns over the lack of prior notification regarding these legal actions.
